Bait and Lures


Fishing bait and lures are used to catch fish, but they are completely different from each other. Both involve the use of a rod, reel and hook, but fishing bait refers to placing food for the fish on the hook before casting the line into the water. Worms are used quite often in freshwater fishing, while saltwater fishing involves the use of smaller fish, such as anchovies and minnow.

Fishing lures are objects at the end of a fishing line concealing the hook. They are designed to catch the attention of the fish that will snap at the bright colors and get caught by the hook. There can be up to three hooks on one lure. When using a lure, the angler casts out the line and either trolls the line by slowly reeling it in or by engaging in casting out, waiting for a short time, reeling in and casting out again.
